Maelle graduated from Cornell University, with a BA in Business and Economics, and started her professional journey as a management consultant at Ernst & Young in New York City. She worked at EY for three years, advising large corporation across various sectors on process improvements, with a focus on supply chain management. She moved to Phnom Penh in September 2015 to pursue a growing passion for internal development and social change, and joined Friends International, where she worked as the technical coordinator for Friends social businesses.
Laura Smitheman, Programs & Innovations Director at Impact Hub Phnom Penh
Having worked in finance positions for NGOs in the UK, Africa and India, Chartered Accountant Laura came to Cambodia as CFO at Angkor Hospital for Children. Along the way to co-founding Impact Hub Phnom Penh, she co-launched Cambodia’s only platform for social entrepreneurship – Social Enterprise Cambodia – and worked with the National University of Singapore and City U, Hong Kong, to research the developing social enterprise ecosystem in Cambodia. A fellow of the INSEAD Social Entrepreneurship program, Laura takes the lead on the educational content of Impact Hub Phnom Penh. She is inspired everyday by the power co-working and high quality content provision has for bringing people together and stimulating tangible results.
